Nowadays is now open year-round with the addition of an indoor annex. Indoors at Nowadays opened in January and features a lengthy bar, minimalistic space, and good vibes all around.
Opened by Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, Nowadays is situated in at 56-06 Cooper Ave in Ridgewood. For years, it’s been a seasonal backyard party, showing movies and serving barbecue.
The new addition includes a 5,000 square foot warehouse space decorated with plants and surrounded with speakers that make the place come alive. Inspired by Japanese listening bars, in which people sip on drinks and quietly listen to music, it promises to be an extremely versatile space.
But it isn’t just an audiophile paradise. During DJ sets, strobe lights shine on the strictly cellphone-free dance floor.
Drinks are reasonable and to the point. As for food, there’s rice bowls, snacks and sandwiches. Five dollars could get you an ice cream sandwich or a beer.
The crowd and atmosphere changes every night. It could be a lecture hall in the afternoon and a dance club at night but expect a cover on weekends, especially if you’re coming in later.
