The Upper West Side is perhaps most well-known as a residential spot with beautiful views of the Hudson, but its also underrated as a drinking and dining destination. Here are five of the cheapest spots to hit up for happy hour.
The Mermaid Inn
This New England style seafood spot offers cocktails and wine for $8.50, beers for $6 and tons of snacks like $1.25 oysters, $1 clams, $5 salmon tartare and $3 mini fish tacos from 5-7 every day.
570 Amsterdam Ave.
The Mermaid Inn’s pizza centric sister restaurant and next door neighbor’s happy hour also runs from 5-7. The menu features $8 cocktails and wine, $5 beer, and small plates like $10 rigatoni and a $6 meatball parm slider. All of the pizzas are $12.
568 Amsterdam Ave.
Burke & Wills
Burke & Wills is a deceptively chill white tablecloth eatery whose happy hour is fleeting but totally worth it. On Sundays and Mondays from 4-8 the bar offers 2 for 1 drinks and 2 for 1 bar snacks. It’s cash only, so bring a roll of bills with you and double up on wine, cocktails, beer and bites like bone marrow and crab beignets.
226 W 79th St.
Caledonia, which bills itself as “The least pretentious whisky bar in the world,” has a pretty great happy hour for NYC scotch enthusiasts. From open to 7, the menu offers $11 Glen Monray Port Cask and Speyside pours, $6 Founders All Day IPA and Narragansetts, and $8 Chardonnay or Pinot Noir.
424 Amsterdam Ave.
This lively taco spot hosts “Fiesta Time” from 3-7 with $5 beers, $6 margaritas, and an assembly of small plates for $3-$5 that includes yucca fries, tamales and ‘Nachos Libre.’
