Vegans and meatless Monday maniacs, rejoice! Elle Barton, the owner of Clementine Bakery, recently opened Izzy Rose in Clinton Hill. It boasts a seriously extensive menu of plant-based fare, along with a glitzy bar and a gorgeous backyard. And honestly, it looks like my new go-to hangout.
To start, the food caters to vegan hipsters and 55-year-old meat-eating dads alike. The taco menu includes unique varieties like the Jack of All Trades (featuring smokey jackfruit, tangy slaw, cilantro, and mango salsa) as well as the Shroom Trip (boasting marinated cumin portobellos, avocado, slaw, cilantro, and kale chimichurri). There is also a variety of Hot Bites (the Izzy Rose Nachos look unbeatable) and cold bites like chips and guac, and chips and salsa. Plus, there’s a brunch menu that could seriously rival any Manhattan hot spot.
The drinks are pretty creative. The brunch cocktails feature unique offerings like Half Yours (Tequila, St. Germain, cucumber, lime, agave, and black pepper) as well as the Rising Sign (which blends cava, fresh OJ, passionfruit liquer, and lime). Past brunch, try Lolitas Revenge (which blends Butterfly pea flower-infused vodka, blackberries, and lemon) or Augusta Gray (featuring Rye, pear, lavender, hopped grapefruit bitters, and lemon). You really can’t go wrong.
The bar features a total of 65 seats according to GrubStreet, and pops with pastel colors. There’s also a narrow barroom which includes high-top tables as and a seafoam-green booth along the wall. If you’d like to venture outside, the backyard is painted pink and yellow, boasting a variety of plants and — most importantly — shade.
