The sidecar is a staple of the classic cocktail oeuvre. Liquor.com postulates that it is kin to the New Orleans classic Brandy Crusta. The tart, boozy sour contains only three ingredients- lemon, Cognac (or brandy) and curaçao.
The drink had a resurgence during the classics revival of the new modern cocktail movement, and has thus gone on to inspire numerous riffs and modifications. We’d like to offer our own, a seasonally appropriate and easy to make at home recipe for your autumnal tippling:
– 2 oz. Apple Brandy
– 1 oz. Lemon Juice
-.75 oz. Cinnamon Infused Curaçao
– 1 Bar Spoon Clover Honey
Vigorously shake in a tin over ice, double strain into a coupe, top with an anise berry that has been flamed until fragrant. Drink quickly.
To make infused curaçao, toast cinnamon sticks in a dry pan until lightly charred and fragrant. Drop ten into a bottle of curaçao and let steep overnight.
