Doreen Winkler, a natural wine sommelier, has started a skin-contact-wine-only subscription service called Orange Glou. The service launched earlier this year, and is available everywhere in the US that allows wine delivery to individual consumers.
Natural wines have seen an uptick in popularity over the last few years, but don’t share the ubiquity of other wine trends like the terrifying dominance of rosé. Winkler says that she wants to provide a way for consumers to access the sometimes elusive wines more easily.
Her company will focus on orange wine, a variety made with white grapes whose seeds and skin are kept in contact with the flesh of the grapes, unlike the production of traditional white wines.
The service is the first of its kind. The companies describe the wines provided to subscribers as “new, rare and highly allocated bottlings.”
If you want to check out Winkler’s palate before you buy, she hosts a monthly pop up under the same name in NYC.
