Monday Mixes are back with a new low ABV cocktail to help you come down from the weekend. Today, we’re going to explore a classic that Tales of the Cocktail reports dates all the way back to the 1880s. The story, as Tales tells it, is that while the musical Adonis was playing on Broadway in what some claim is the first ever Broadway production, a bartender at the Waldorf-Astoria created this cocktail and named as a tribute to the play.
Vermouth is a common ingredient in many classic cocktails, including the Negroni and the Martini. The Adonis forgoes the heavier spirits of those drinks and focuses on the vermouth itself. It also incorporates last week’s star ingredient, Fino Sherry.
2 oz. Fino Sherry
2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
Stir the drink with ice, strain into a coupe. Garnish with an orange peel.
Thanks to Tales of the Cocktail for the recipe!
